Bundoran!!

There are very few positives to be drawn from the shortening days, start of school and deterioration of the weather. There is at least advantage to the onset of autumn however: Our weekend away in Bundoran is just three weeks away!

This year’s expedition follows the same format as last year. Damien has booked a self-catering house for the two-leggeds while the 4-leggeds will enjoy livery at Stracomer Stables. Saturday evening’s entertainment will begin with a trip to nearby feeding and watering holes, returning for the real show at the house once everybody is well warmed up.

Riding will be on the expansive beaches and sandunes that you’ve driven past a million times thinking “Boy, I’d just LOVE to have a spin across that on a horse”.

Please let Damien know straight away on 087 763 1911 if you’re interested in going. The cost of livery is €30 per horse and the additional cost of human digs will be determined when we know just how many of us are going to squeeze into the holiday house. Expect a total cost around €50 per 6-leg unit.

You’ll need to give Damien a deposit of €30 by Friday 5 September at latest to secure your spot. Don’t miss it!!

Ride-out in Rathmullan area, Friday 8 August

A huge number of our members are making their way to Dublin for the Horse Show at the RDS — one of the truly great events on the equestrian calendar annually. For anybody who isn’t Dublin bound and is looking for entertainment, Libby will lead a ride-out in the Rathmullan area this Friday evening. Exact departure point and route will be determined based on the number of riders and their level of ambition.

Ride-out with Jenny, Ards Forest area, Friday 27 June

This Friday evening Jenny offers members an opportunity to discover her backyard in the area around Creeslough, Ards Forest and Muckish. Paddy, Rachel and Libby enjoyed a fabulous route through the area with her in mid-winter, some time ago. The scenery and natural environment are stunning and will be a joy at the peak of midsummer.

Contact Jenny on 086 0844 748 for full details, if you plan to go along.

Further details on Friday evening at Marina & Enda’s

Just in case any of our non-jumping members were writing off Friday evening as a no-go area, rest assured that Marina and Enda are designing the activities to suit just about everybody. For those who do want to jump, there’ll be a go-as-you-please session to start, with jumping and open country riding through five big generous fields. Non-jumpers can just enjoy the scope of the fields.

Following that, when the excess gas has been released from the horses, we’ll enjoy a games session with various obstacles and puzzles to be undertaken by mixed teams, designed to accommodate the full range of non-jumping or novice riders as well as fat and unfit horses.

We’re expecting company from the Gaeltachts and Inishowen so it should be a great evening at the height of midsummer with a wonderful weather forecast. Refreshments after our exertions will crown a lovely expedition.

Contact Marina for further details and to let her know, if you plan to participate.
