Hunter trials: a cross country only event. A competition to test the ability of the horse and rider to negotiate a course of typical natural fences at a fair hunting pace.
Hunter trials are seen by many as being the most fun of all the competitive disciplines. Riders may compete as individuals or in pairs, allowing less confident horses or riders the benefit of pairing up with a confidence-boosting partner. As cross-country courses are scarce on the ground in the north west of our green isle keen competitors frequently travel quite long distances to enjoy their chosen sport. These trips, which often involve overnight stays, are the highlight of the year for many club members, with the annual trip to the National Hunter Trial Championships being the stuff of much anticipation. Accommodation can be rough and ready but the atmosphere makes up for everything.

As with everything there are rules regarding permitted and compulsory tack. Find the information at the following link
