The countdown continues. Less than a week now to our trip to Millers Hill and, despite the gloomy view out the window over the last few days, it looks like we might pull off the usual miracle with the weather. Campers will need warm sleeping bags but we might be able to pack lightly onContinue reading “Looking beyond the rain to Millers Hill”

Harvest time on horseback
Normally at this time of year we ride along the roads looking wishfully into those beautiful big fields as the silage is cut and the corn harvested. Last night we found ourselves on the right side of the fence and enjoyed a spectacular autumn evening of childish fun careering around the freshly cut headlands ofContinue reading “Harvest time on horseback”
Change of dressage judge for next week
Mary Devine has had to change her plans and won’t after all be judging our dressage tests next week. Jackie will do the honours instead so consider bringing her some treats for the lesson tomorrow evening. Once again Martina has four lessons scheduled, beginning at 6pm.
Early autumn cross country evening at Audrey & Tanya’s, Thursday 2 September
Audrey and Tanya hope to squeeze the very last gasp out of the waning summer daylight with a cross country evening at their farm in Castleshanaghan this Thursday. The silage has been cut and Audrey plans to make jumps around the headlands of the fields so that we can enjoy an early-autumn cross country adrenalinContinue reading “Early autumn cross country evening at Audrey & Tanya’s, Thursday 2 September”
Active weekend ahead
24 riders have booked in for what’s shaping up to be a marathon session this Friday evening with Jackie McPherson. From 6 to 10 pm, Martina has scheduled 4 lessons to accommodate everybody who booked in punctually this week. Who ever said flatwork was boring? Jackie has set two AIRC tests, 4 and 17, forContinue reading “Active weekend ahead”
Date for your diary: Club meeting Sunday 26 September
Put Sunday 26 September in your diaries for our next club meeting. We’ll be planning the calendar of activities for the remainder of the year and all members, together with their ideas, are welcome (encouraged!) to attend.
Back to (flat)work on a Friday evening
We’ve never experienced such a huge interest in Friday evening lessons. Martina, charged with running her first set of club activities, was inundated with members texting their bookings for Friday evening’s flatwork lesson with Jackie McPherson. Jackie wanted five on each lesson; Martina accommodated everybody who booked by the cut-off time of Wednesday evening. TheContinue reading “Back to (flat)work on a Friday evening”
Flatwork lessons with Jackie McPherson
It’s almost like back-to-school time at the riding club with a series of lessons beginning this Friday at Harley’s arena in Trentagh. Jackie McPherson will instruct us in flatwork for three consecutive weeks. Please book as early as possible (and by Wednesday at the latest) to help Martina get groups and times organised. Contact herContinue reading “Flatwork lessons with Jackie McPherson”
Upcoming Friday activity
It’s a while since we’ve had any instruction on Fridays but there’s plenty coming up over the next month. Francis isn’t able to run his safe towing talk/demo this Friday so instead we’ll have a jumping lesson at Glenleary to keep everybody out of trouble. The emphasis of the class will be on riding aContinue reading “Upcoming Friday activity”
More on Millers Hill
Bookings are building up for Millers Hill so it’s probably time to give new members who weren’t around for the 2009 expedition an idea of what it’s all about. Finbar wrote this account last year (intended for the yearbook-that-never-was) and it illuminates the subject beautifully: Finbar’s Millers Hill Please make your provisional booking with LibbyContinue reading “More on Millers Hill”
