Unexpected yankee visitors, sick animals and elusive baby-sitters have diluted the numbers for Millers Hill but there’ll still be a notable convoy heading down the road on Saturday morning. Mick and Leo missed the expedition last year but nothing short of an earthquake will prevent them travelling tomorrow. They’ll be joined by 2009 veterans AudreyContinue reading “All set for Millers Hill”

Where do we come from?
As our membership nears its peak 2009 level again, it’s interesting to get a geographic overview of the club. We’ll update this map on a regular basis and store it in the Club section of the website.
Membership increases again with Marys, old and new
The club quota of Marys has been restored to its usual healthy level. Mary Finneran, a founder member of the club, has rejoined after a very short spell on the sidelines while Mary Friel joins us as a new member. She hails from Tamney on the western side of the Fanad peninsula and will ride her lovelyContinue reading “Membership increases again with Marys, old and new”
Bon vacances, Fenway – what’s another year?
12 months ago, Fenway and Libby were in Tullamore competing at the National ODE Championships. A year later, having just completed 6 weeks of box rest and walking rehab, Fenway is celebrating Week 1 of a year’s sabbatical — only 51 to go. A recurrent suspensory ligament problem which defies all rehab programmes, care andContinue reading “Bon vacances, Fenway – what’s another year?”
Perseverance pays off with a new horse for Annie
There are many ways to skin a cat, as Gabriel McCole found out when trying to find a new horse for his daughters, club member Annie and younger sister Eimear. Little girls grow into young adults and childhood ponies shrink by comparison. Leaving from Glenleary, Ramelton, the ride-out willContinue reading “Charity ride-out, Sunday 26 September”
The science of riding
An equine scientist observing the colourful collection of horses and riders at our flatwork lesson with Jackie on Friday evening would probably have had difficulty deducing any strong theories about the optimum mechanics of the relationship between horse and rider. Unbeknownst to most of us, it seems that Jackie* has been involved in some fairlyContinue reading “The science of riding”
Another week, another new member
We’re happy to welcome another new member to the club. Suzanne Deeney Wylie from Rathmullan has joined us. She’ll ride at Advanced Primary level and we hope she has a lot of fun. Her riding club career looks set to kick off under Jackie’s eye this Friday evening at Harleys.

Another new member from Rathmullan area
Annette Gallagher from Elly, deep in our treasure hunt landscape just north of Rathmullan, has joined the club. She’s a Primary rider and she’s lucky enough to have two young horses being broken by Peter Smyth at present — an Irish Draught and a sport horse.
