Speaking of spouses and grandparents, if any of them (or anybody else you know) are interested in joining the club for a few months from now to the end of the year, we expect the AIRC to announce their customary reduction in membership fees for the remainder of 2014 any time now. It’s a great opportunity for people to test the riding club waters and get a feel for what we do. Spread the word.
Our calendar, carefully plotted at our recent club meeting, is now on line.
And for everybody who needs to know how to run a show (and that is everybody!) here’s Damien’s excellent Guide to Organising a Show.
Jenny will very shortly be placing a new order for cross country shirts and would like any remaining orders as soon as possible. Remember that you can now contact Jenny on her new mobile number, 086 084 4748.
Our website runs on the ultra-easy-to-use WordPress.com blogging platform. The WordPress stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for the blog which throws some interesting light on what we most enjoyed looking at on the site and where most of our views come from.
Here’s an excerpt:
Madison Square Garden can seat 20,000 people for a concert. This blog was viewed about 68,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Madison Square Garden, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Remember, if you plan to compete at the Northwest League (first show on Sunday 9 February), you need to get your subscription to Cormac or Francis without further delay. Processing through HQ doesn’t happen overnight and you must be in possession of your card in order to compete. Handing over the spondoolicks on the day is not a ticket to ride!
Jenny will shortly be placing a club gear order so make sure you contact her, if there’s something you’re looking for. In addition to buying club gear, there’s also the opportunity to have any of your own items embroidered with the club logo for free. Just give the items to Jenny on a Friday night, making sure that you’ve attached some form of identification so that you can claim your goods later.
Cormac is never one to shy away from a challenge but he’s put his foot down at the prospect of hurling himself out the door of a plane. Notwithstanding this display of sanity, he’s undertaking to do some promotion for the St Vincent de Paul’s planned Charity Parachute Jump.
What he most wants is a volunteer to jump! There’ll be ten jumpers in total and each will need to raise a certain amount of money for the SVP, but there’ll be assistance with that end of things. There’ll be training beforehand and the parachute jump will almost certainly take place at Carrickfinn.
Moving our AGM to early November from its traditional spot in December has played havoc with our subscription payment routine. However, this is now your official reminder that your 2014 membership subscription is due. You should make cheques payable to Letterkenny Riding Club and get them to Francis as quickly as possible (Francis McNicholl, Anney, Kerrykeel, Co Donegal).
As many of you know, our mother organisation, the Association of Irish Riding Clubs (AIRC) has dropped its share of our subscription by €5 but we have decided to leave our club subscription at the same level as 2013 — €100 for riding members and €40 for non-riders. This allows the club a slight financial buffer zone and saves us having to fundraise through other means throughout the year. If we run a surplus, the funds will be invested for the benefit of all in club equipment, training, etc.
Club officers should note that their subscriptions are particularly urgent since the club cannot register for 2014 without its officers’ memberships being fully paid up! No pressure…
Anybody who hasn’t yet seen the Gaeltacht’s post on a proposed trip to Equus Live at Punchestown in November should check it out and express their interest, if they’d like to travel: Equus Live 2013.
Cormac will be attending the regional meeting which takes place tomorrow, 10 July. Changes of grade must be approved at regional level so, if you want to use this opportunity, contact Cormac before tomorrow evening’s meeting.
