Our inaugural summer Derby & Dressage show takes place on Sunday 10 July at Hillsborough Farm. Orla has already had plenty of expressions of interest from those of you willing and able to lend a hand and/or brain to the extensive preparation of the event. There’ll be a meeting for everybody who’s going to beContinue reading “Derby meeting this Wednesday, Ramelton”

Flatwork in Glenswilly a great success
Suzanne has delivered a very upbeat report on Friday night’s lessons with Mary Devine and she’s also captured everything really well in pictures: The lessons with Mary Devine went well. Audrey and I were the only two in the first lesson as there were cancellations from Orla and Laura. We had a brilliant lesson andContinue reading “Flatwork in Glenswilly a great success”
Change of plan for Friday evening: Flatwork with Mary Devine
Not surprisingly, Mick and Suzanne’s land at Glenswilly has been saturated by the ongoing rain. Cross country training on open ground is out of the question so we’re switching to Plan B. Mary Devine will give flatwork instruction in Carrolls’ arena. Please book with Mick on 086 828 2280, if you plan to attend.
Showing clinic illustrates level of professionalism needed to succeed in the show ring
There’s no news yet of any members who travelled to Annagry for Sunday’s show jumping but eight mounted members participated in a very entertaining showing clinic at Glenleary on Friday evening. Mary Finneran began the session with a talk on all aspects of the discipline. From conditioning the horse to tailoring the turn-out, she presentedContinue reading “Showing clinic illustrates level of professionalism needed to succeed in the show ring”
Showing, show jumping and more on the cards this weekend

Clear round jumping replaces next week’s ride-out
Friday 3 June turns out to be a busy day in many members’ diaries. Since it doesn’t suit a good number of people to ride on Friday evening, we will instead do some clear round jumping in Milford on Wednesday 1 June. Full details next week.
Showing clinic takes shape
Mary Finneran will conduct our showing clinic this Friday evening at Glenleary. Recent weather conditions mean that the event will take place in the arena rather than on grass, as originally intended. The format will be that of a ridden showing class with a Q&A afterwards covering all aspects of tack, turn out, etiquette andContinue reading “Showing clinic takes shape”
Looking from one Friday back to another
Our regular Friday evening activities get overshadowed occasionally by competitive events on a Sunday. Last Friday evening’s ride-out at Moorefield, near Ramelton, was a most enjoyable affair for the five riders who took their chances with the squally weather and came out bone dry and happy at the end of a lovely hack. Erica describedContinue reading “Looking from one Friday back to another”
Forecast wind puts paid to camping plans
The sand dunes at Carrickfinn make a bleak paddock for even the hardiest horse in 50mph winds. With this in mind our camping expedition has been very reluctantly postponed. But only postponed!
Carrickfinn looks like being damp but without downpours
There may not be bright blazing sunshine in prospect for this weekend’s camping expedition but in light of the current conditions, who’s going to quibble with “Cloudy and milder with rain tapering to a couple of showers” on Saturday? The weather should definitely be campable so it’s all systems go for the trip. Contact DamienContinue reading “Carrickfinn looks like being damp but without downpours”
