Good news: Robert and Roberta McCrum of Millers Hill in Armagh have given us the green light for our weekend away on 18 & 19 September. Full details to follow. We’ll follow approximately the same format as last year but will pre-arrange an expedition to nearby Gosford Park for a hack, probably on the Sunday.Continue reading “Millers Hill confirmed for our weekend away”

Ride-out at Ray, Rathmullan, Friday 6 August
Libby will lead a ride-out this Friday evening from Ray football pitch, about 3 miles south of Rathmullan. It’s traditionally the quietest Friday in the calendar with at least half our members either away at the Horse Show in the RDS or on holidays. Last year Damien and Libby hacked as a twosome, amending theContinue reading “Ride-out at Ray, Rathmullan, Friday 6 August”

Another perfect evening at Cyril’s
Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight. The clear round jumping evening started off in a threatening gloom but brightened up to finish with a brilliant sequence of yellow sky, a complete rainbow, and finally a magnificent red sky. As a side show there was a bit of equestrian action. Everybody enjoyed the course and Orla laughinglyContinue reading “Another perfect evening at Cyril’s”

This Friday, 9 July, we return to Cyril’s arena near Milford for an evening of clear round jumping. Anybody who’s interested in course building is more than welcome toContinue reading “Clear round jumping at Cyril’s, Friday 9 July”

Nine hardy riders gathered at Oughterlin, Rathmullan, to follow Francis and Maura’s cryptic treasure trail over 12 miles of beautiful scenery. Divided into three teams of three, the riders were started atContinue reading “Treasure successfully hunted despite best efforts of weather”
Friday activities on two fronts
Kelda’s second lesson at Lenamore proved a huge success with a group of eight keen pupils treated to a generous 2 1/2 hour session. Starting with schooling over a grid in the sand arena, Kelda then moved the group out to the grass where everybody jumped the course for the Tuesday SJI League at theContinue reading “Friday activities on two fronts”
Weekend weather set to play ball
Things have undoubtedly become more unsettled but who could argue with the warm breeze and brilliant periodic sunshine that we’re having at present? Anybody heading for events on grass this weekend will be thanking the gods for the recent rain. And the horses are probably happy to be seeing a bit of green in placeContinue reading “Weekend weather set to play ball”

Please don’tContinue reading “Treasure Hunt, 1pm, Sunday 4 July, Rathmullan”
Pre-ODE cross country schooling
There’ll be two opportunities to school over cross country obstacles before the 1-day event at Glaslough on Sunday 11 July, provided we get some rain to soften the concrete ground. We’re booked in to school at Gabriel’s this Tuesday, 29 June. On Thursday 8 July we plan on going to Peter Mulrine’s land in Stranorlar. ThereContinue reading “Pre-ODE cross country schooling”
