Membership of the club continues to grow. A very large proportion of long-standing members have already renewed their subscriptions for 2011. At the same time we’re busy welcoming brand new members at a healthy rate. Three newcomers have jumped on board in the last couple of weeks.
Laura McGowan from Ballybofey is a primary school teacher who spends every spare minute on or near a horse. She currently has three horses; a six yearold hairy-legged Irish cob gelding called Cappry Jack, a five year old coloured sport horse gelding named Lightening Jack, and a three year old mare, Miss Jessie, who is being broken at the moment. After ten years of trail riding Laura started taking lessons two years ago and is just getting started in her show jumping career.
Hillary McGettigan, originally from Kildare but now living near Kilmacrennan, has ten years under her belt in Donegal. A graduate of the pony club in her childhood, Hillary got back in the saddle two years ago. She currently has the easy-going Millie on loan and the two have enjoyed the season’s hunting at a gentle pace.
Joanne McBride is originally from Tyrone but has been living in Letterkenny for just over a year now. For Joanne it’s been horses on the brain since the age of 6. She still has her first pony Sidney, now the grand old age of 22 but still acting like a 3 year old. She also has Betty, a 7 year old Thoroughbred by Deploy currently on livery at Harley’s yard in Trentagh. Betty believes she’s the next Houdini!
