Friday flatwork on foot – the challenge of bowls

Friday’s bowls evening in Ramelton proved a great success and tuned up member’s flatwork brains in anticipation of Sunday’s North West League. There were no horses involved for this Friday session but the requisite sporting skill proved a bit more sophisticated than at the Christmas 12-pin bowling.

Tanya and Audrey, assisted by equally talented and experienced family members, demonstrated the precision sport they compete in regularly and then watched while the novices came to terms with the two-sided bowling ball and the obstacle to be navigated on the “green”. Not easy, but definitely intriguing. People were hooked.

By close of play it was time to relax the pressure and head for a pint next door at Durcans. It was all anybody could do to resist the temptation of the karaoke session downstairs. We’ll keep that in reserve for another good night out!
